Now you see them, now you don’t!

Today was Rosco’s first tusk trimming.  A rite of passage for boars, this procedure is done with a wire saw designed for lopping off limbs during surgery. It cuts through all sorts of tissue…especially tusks.

The procedure was done during his hoof trimming.  He will be seven this fall, and this is the first time he has had to be trimmed.

Below is what is left of the wire and his two lower tusks.  The shorter one was broken off by accident when he got it caught on a wooden stake in the yard two years ago. He snapped off about one inch, and there was still about half of it left.
